Though
wanting to be an artist from a very early age parental
wisdom and economic circumstances steered him into
the applied arts, and eventually into the studies
of textile design. Nevertheless he maintained a keen
interest in painting throughout his lifetime, but
could never paint often enough due to his professional
and social commitments.
During
the years of World War II he was heavily engaged in
Red Cross activities. He also was a very active member
and elder of his church, and served for many years
as the superintendent of the Sunday school. Bernard
Oord did not become a famous painter, but he did succeed
in being very creative throughout most of his life
as an applied artist designer.
This
portfolio is only a small glimpse of his work, and
is intended as homage to him.
I really appreciate your taking the time to view his work.
